Divergent Thinking Through Image Transformation
Printmaking is a great way to teach the idea of transformation of an image. This etching task below is an example of how a self portrait added with some simple provocation (in this case photos of organic objects) turned can be turned into anything. I see this as underpinning divergent thinking strategies. A group artist/students are given a photos of themselves, given an ingredient and a process and let to go free. The process was to photograph their face, choose a picture of a natural object to combine into a collage which was the template to create a acrylic etching from. The outcomes are varied and teach that there is never only one right way to solve a problem even if constrained within a set process.
